Librarian's Picks: MANGA

MANGA!

Manga refers to Japanese comics or graphic novels. Manga includes extended series with many, many volumes of serialized fiction. Manga are written in Japanese in many different genres such as romance or horror. Some of the most popular manga is translated into English, such as the thrilling series, Death Note by Tsugumi Oba (Viz Media, 2008; originally published in Japan in 2003).

MANGA Reading Tips...

Here are a couple of things to remember when reading MANGA:

  • Experiment with your reading tastes and try some MANGA; you may find you cannot get enough of it, like many young adults and adults around the world.

  • MANGA series are HUGE! But you don't have to read the whole series, or even read in chronological order. You can even pick up a random book in the middle of the series and start there!

  • Books are read Right-to-Left in Japan; when MANGA is re-produced in English-speaking countries, the format is often the same, so remember to start reading in the back of the book, Right-to-Left, then turn the page.

  • Have fun! MANGA is meant to be entertaining and FUN!
