Celebrating Jewish American Heritage Month

May is Jewish American Heritage Month!

How did Jewish American Heritage Month get started?

In 2006, Jewish American Heritage Month was established “as a bipartisan effort sponsored in Congress by...Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania and Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida" (from Jewish American Heritage’s JAHM Toolkit Resource Guide). Jewish community leaders petitioned for national recognition of the contributions Jewish people have made to American culture (from Jewish Heritage Month’s “About Jewish Heritage Month” page).

Jewish American Heritage Month, or JAHM,

“provides an opportunity for people to learn about and appreciate Jewish heritage and reflect on the specific history and experiences of the American Jewish community, serving as an antidote to antisemitism”

(from Jewish American Heritage’s JAHM Toolkit Resource Guide).

You can learn more about Jewish American Heritage Month at and

(Jewish American Heritage Month "Did You Know?" Pamphlet)

Celebrate JAHM with a book!

Thanks for reading! We hope to see you in the Library again soon!
